NCF Joint Sessions Story Slam at Eaton DC

4/20 Week

Starting on April 16th, NCF infused the DC area with programs examining different elements of cannabis culture.

From the 2022 beer can release and hemps panel discussion at DC Brau Brewing Company to the NCF x Khalifa Kush Kickback and screening of the “Tending the Garden” documentary at Eaton DC, there was something for everyone. Click here to see a list of 4/20 Week events.

National Cannabis Policy Summit

The National Cannabis Policy Summit returned in-person for the first time since 2019. Hundreds of activists and experts gathered at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center to hear from policymakers and thought leaders from across the political spectrum.

Highlights included remarks from political luminaries including Senator Chuck Schumer, Congresswoman Barbara Lee, and Congresswoman Nancy Mace. A one-on-one conversation between Louisiana Senate Candidate Gary Chambers and George Washington University’s Dr. Imani Cheers emphasized the urgent need for criminal justice reform and reinvestment in communities most harmed by the war on drugs.

At the conclusion of the Summit, attendees flocked to the foyer for the Weedmaps Speakers Reception with tunes provided by DJ Large Child. Food and drinks flowed as Summer Fox of Weedmaps and Dasheeda Dawson of the Cannabis Regulators of Color Coalition took the stage to provide keynote remarks.

National Cannabis Festival

What a day!! April 23rd was a dream come true as more than 20,000 cannabis activists, patients and enthusiasts gathered at the Festival Grounds at RFK Stadium for the 6th annual event.

Upon arrival, attendees were greeted with a weed wonderland featuring more than 120 exhibitors selling apparel, arts, crafts, glassware, and more.

Sprinkled among the exhibit booths, non-profit advocacy partners like Drug Policy Alliance, Students for Sensible Drug Policy and NORML, shared information with attendees about cannabis laws in their communities, while the Cannabis Voter Project encouraged attendees to register to vote.

Just past the exhibitor fair, the Munchies Zone offered hungry guests more than 70 different restaurant and food truck options to satisfy all cravings.

The Gogo Bus at NCF

Throughout the day, attendees visited the NCF Education Pavilions to learn about all things cannabis. The Wellness Pavilion hosted yoga sessions and talks featuring cannabis patients and doctors. In the Grow School, attendees learned about growing cannabis at home and got a crash-course in the basics of regenerative agriculture. The Policy Pavilion hosted a variety of deep dives into legislative issues impacting the cannabis community. From executive action on federal legalization to addressing licensing access issues locally, there was a lot of information to take in. The Culture Pavilion was packed from midday til dusk with talks featuring icons including Beanie Sigel, Smoke DZA and Rohan Marley. The Culinary Pavilion had a great debut at NCF 2022 with talks featuring the area’s top chefs, cooking demos and eating contests (we want to send our best wishes to the brave souls who took part in the pizza eating contest).

But that’s not all!

The Cypher Stage rocked all day with free-style performances and the NCF High Rollers Contest presented by Bouqe.

Whew! That was a lot….and we haven’t even talked about THE MUSIC.

From doors open to doors closed, the main stage was on fire! NCF’s favorite DJ, the one and only Farrah Flosscett, opened the day and set the stage for an incredible afternoon of music. At 5pm, Backyard Band took the stage (for the 6th year in a row) and got the crowd hyped for Ghostface Killah

As the sun went down, Lettuce put on a laser light show, synced with their music that delighted attendees. With excitement reaching fever pitch, DJ Bonics took the stage alongside the full band assembled to bring out the man, the myth, the legend Wiz Khalifa for his headline performance. After taking fans through a nostalgic performance of the Kush and OJ album, Wiz took fans on wild ride through his biggest hits. We now know for sure that DC is TAYLOR GANG!!

National Cannabis Championship Awards Show

This year, NCF introduced a new program, the National Cannabis Championship Awards Show which was sponsored by the regions favorite cannabis connoisseur The Gentleman Toker.

Taking place the day after NCF, NCC invited attendees in for a light-hearted afternoon of music, comedy, trivia and a chance to celebrate some of our regions best home growers with awards for products in hemp and THC categories. Cannabis experts like Guy Rocourt of Papa and Barkley and Lauren Stansbury from Dr. Bronner’s joined The Gentleman Toker in delivering the prize belts. Yes, you read that right, we handed out wrestling belts to the winners!

Hosted by DJ Diamond Kuts and Samy K the headline performance by Slick Rick electrified the room, with fans of all ages dancing and singing along to much-loved tunes.
