Jerome Anthony is the Highest MC in the DMV
Right before the holidays, the NCF Cypher Finals took place, crowning DC rapper Jerome Anthony the “Highest MC in the DMV”.
Starting in January 2020, contestants from across the region were invited to participate in a tournament-style cypher contest. More than 40 contestants with varying experience and backgrounds signed up to take part in the Cypher tournament, and on October 25, 2020 the final 12 contestants convened on Instagram Live for the finals hosted by Phone Homie (with an assist from DJ A-Boogey and Mark the CEO of Pink Fox).
The finals took place across 3 hours and featured plenty of Phone Homie’s signature dab rips. Over 3 rounds, contestants took turns delivering freestyle rhymes on assigned themes over beats selected by MC Homie.
Three contestants consistently stood out during all three rounds: Jerome Anthony, Ace of Spades and C-Barz. The final decision came down to audience votes in the Instagram Live comment section and the opinion of our esteemed host.
In the end, Jerome Anthony’s electrifying performances won out. His prize package includes:
-
Invitation to host NCF Cypher Sessions in 2021
-
Cypher Sessions Swag Prize Pack from NCF and our Sponsors
-
Bragging rights for being 2020’s HIGHEST MC in the DMV!

I’m from Southeast Washington, DC, - “7th ward 41 Gtown” to be exact. I first heard about the NCF through some friends. I’ve been to the last 3 festivals. I guess you can say I’m a repeat attender.
“For me, rapping and music in general is an outlet and a way to express my thoughts, feelings and emotions artistically.”
I started rapping when I was 10 years old, but that was just for fun. When I turned 17 years old I started taking my music more seriously. For me, rapping and music in general is an outlet and a way to express my thoughts, feelings and emotions artistically. Through my art, I’ve learned that I’m a very somber and unique person. For me music is more of a feeling than a sound and rapping is a vibration. I find it therapeutic.
“I’d like to see local music festivals do better when it comes to offering platforms and opportunities for local artists. It would be great to feel the same love, admiration and respect that goes to big name artists...”
Right now, I have a new single out called “Blame” featuring and produced by Ian Craig. You can find it on all platforms. I also have a new project by the name of D.E.S.K (Down to Earth Space King) coming soon. As we look to life post-COVID 19, I’d like to see local music festivals do better when it comes to offering platforms and opportunities for local artists. It would be great to feel the same love, admiration and respect that goes to big name artists being given to local talent. I wish more events could find ways to make local artists feel welcome and not like local jokers dying to get on.
