Artist Spotlight: Meet Korine

Started in late 2017, Korine is a Philadelphia based duo consisting of members Morgy Ramone and Trey Frye. The pair blends new wave nostalgia, early emo, and punk with a modern pop sensibility.

Their debut EP ‘Corsage,’ a moody, lo-fi set of self recorded synth driven tracks, gained the band quick traction and led to the subsequent release of debut album, ‘New Arrangements.’ 2020 saw the release of the band’s most matured set of songs to date, the sophomore album, ‘The Night We Raise,’ heavily expanding the signature sound of the group while continuing to showcase the pair’s DIY mentality.

Keep reading to learn more about Korine and catch them on the main stage at NCF on Friday, April 19th.

NCF: Where are you from and where do you live now?

Korine: I'm (Morgy) from New Jersey and Trey is from West Virginia. We are based in South Philadelphia

NCF: What inspired your band/performance creation?

Korine: We both grew up listening to a lot of punk and emo stuff and have been inspired by performances of the like. It's that mixed with electronic music where I think our music/performances come from and what makes our sound unique.

NCF: What's your favorite song to enjoy with cannabis and/or for relaxation?

Korine: Hard to pick! but I would say Punch and Judy by Elliott Smith

NCF: If you could invite anyone (the sky's the limit!) to guest perform with you onstage at NCF who would it be and why?

Korine: Wow Anyone?? Richard Wolff or Trixie Matel-- 2 of the smartest people around!

NCF: Any upcoming projects or shows we can make folks aware of?

Korine: We're gonna be on tour in a city near you very soon! Check out our tour dates at Korineband.com.
