Peloton’s Viral Cannabis-Cycling Group Makes One Rider’s Dreams Come True
Have you heard of Pelostoned, the Facebook group for Peloton Cycling App Members that share a love of cannabis and fitness?
Created in April 2020, the Pelostoned page gained broad attention in 2021in publications like The Business Insider. Membership steadily climbed as sales of home fitness equipment soared at the height of the pandemic, and even now with the world back open the Pelostoned Group has survived and thrived.
Pelostoned may be one of the friendliest places on Facebook. Good vibes abound with a feed full of folks showing off their home stashes, packed bowls and bongs in front of screenshots with stats from “recently finished ride,” and the occasional stoner meme. Members cheer each other on for reaching fitness goals (whether that’s a first ride on the bike or celebrating a PR) and support each other through challenges and disappointments (injuries, illness or just tough times!). With just over 5,000 members, the page is moderated by a small group of dedicated cannabis and fitness enthusiasts, one of whom is Ryan Lamont.
Ryan has been part of the Pelostoned group since August 2021. Her frequent posts fill the feed with good humor, fitness updates and stories about her day-to-day life. If you follow Ryan’s posts you know that she’s a fitness fanatic, a hands-on mom, a 9-5pm professional and a cannabis-lover.
While Ryan is one of the most recognized names in the Pelostoned group, up until a month ago she didn’t actually own a Peloton bike. It’s no secret that Peloton bikes are luxury items. Many members of Pelostoned purchase their bikes second hand or use payment plans. Other members subscribe to the Peloton program, but use bikes made by other companies that don’t connect to all of the Peloton features. Ryan was part of the second group. She was a daily rider, but didn’t have the Peloton bike.
About 2 months ago, between stoned cycling session posts, Ryan mentioned that she was having trouble getting a bike using the Peloton payment plan. Try as she might, she could not get approved to make the purchase with monthly payments. That’s when her best cycling buds in the Pelostoned group stepped in to help. Knowing how much Ryan loves cycling and LOVES the Pelostoned community, a member named Ashley started a GoFundMe with a very special call to action: “Let’s get Ryan a bike!” said Ashley on November 18th, “Seriously! 50 cents, a dollar…ten dollars? We can do this for someone who inspires us so much! Who’s in?”
And the Pelostoned community answered!
Over the course of 2 weeks, more than 115 canna-cyclists chipped in little by little to help bring a smile to a fellow community member.
Ryan is still amazed by the generosity of the community, “What this amazing community has done for me really caught me by surprise. When I was told how many people are inspired by my posts, I cried. I had no idea I was helping so many people get out of their comfort zone and strive for self-love.”
With her new bike comfortably situated in her family’s basement (not too far from her home grow set up), Ryan knows that she wants to pass on the sense of caring, support and community that Pelostoned has given her: “What this community did for me means the world and I will continue to pay it forward…I just want to spread love and kindness.”
In a world filled with challenges and not-so-good news, we think Ryan’s story is a great example of the kindness that the cannabis community embodies.
“There are good people in this world! Leave it to the stoner community to show us all how its done!”
We couldn’t agree more, Ryan. Happy riding!
