Kaitlin Foster Talks Collaboration and Cultivation
My name is Kaitlin Foster and I grew up in Annapolis, MD. I am married to an incredible man and we have a (recently) blind, short-legged Jack Russell terrier, named Buster who is full of life and personality. Cannabis was big part of the social scene growing up and attending Broadneck High School in Annapolis. I never strayed too far from Annapolis, and District Cannabis being located in Washington, D.C. made perfect sense as a place to advance my career and my love for the plant.
I am the Packaging and Processing Manager at District Cannabis. Cannabis cultivation is an amazing collaboration between people who love plants. I love the teamwork behind it. It’s impossible to do a harvest or buck an entire harvest by yourself. You need a reliable and trustworthy group of people, and my District Cannabis team has become family.
Andras Kirschner, one of the Founders of District Cannabis and Paavo Steinkamp, the Chief Science Officer, are two people I consider mentors. Working with them daily has been really rewarding and I’ve learned so much. I also have to give a shout to Seed Junky Genetics in L.A. and Swamp Boy Seeds started by two friends in Florida, for their inspiring work making high quality genetics resulting in award-winning strains.
“I’m looking forward to trying all of the incredible home grown cannabis. I know that a the growers put a lot of time into each entry and I look forward to giving each one the respect it deserves!”
I’m incredibly excited to be a judge for the National Cannabis Championship. I’m looking forward to trying all of the incredible home grown cannabis. I know that a the growers put a lot of time into each entry and I look forward to giving each one the respect it deserves!
“I encourage people to be open to learning. I’ve seen many growers think they know it all and their method is the best and only.”
For some people the idea of home cultivation or even just learning about the science of growing can be intimidating. Events like NCC are a great way for people get a broad look at what goes into good growing practices. I encourage people to be open to learning. I’ve seen many growers think they know it all and their method is the best and only. Novice growers should also remember that growing plants is a 24/7/365 year-round job. The plants don’t care about vacations or holidays!
