The Green Gold Revolution is Here Top 3 reasons for Cannabis Legalization (in Serbian)

I grew up in Serbia, a country that was called Yugoslavia. Shortly after I was born, a big civil war started that lasted for 4 years, coupled with hyperinflation and a very repressive regime. When I was nine years old, we were at war again and faced a three months long bombing campaign. When I was 10, the dictatorship fell but the country remained relatively poor with low living standards. All of this influenced a big desire for more freedom and prosperity.

Since my mother is a doctor, I went to medical high school and got more interested in harm reduction and ways to assist people living better and healthier lives. At the same time, seeing the impact drug prohibition had in my teenage years definitely influenced my desire to become an advocate for cannabis legalization and ending the war on drugs.

“I believe that many psychedelics or entheogen substances have an incredible potential in therapeutic use…”

Besides cannabis legalization, which is the issue that got me involved in the drug policy reform movement, an issue I deeply care about is research and decriminalization of psychedelics. I believe that many psychedelics or entheogen substances have an incredible potential in therapeutic use and that there is great importance in research and education when it comes to the use of these substances.

“Through these efforts we helped to lead a charge for more compassionate policies when it comes to cannabis…saving hundreds and possibly thousands from imprisonment for simple cannabis possession.”

One of my proudest moments is supporting the cannabis decriminalization movement which led to cannabis decriminalization in the Republic of Georgia. This included training and helping activists organize dozens of events, conferences as well as participating in protests and appearing in the media. Through these efforts we helped to lead a charge for more compassionate policies when it comes to cannabis and pushed for changes in one of the most restrictive legal systems in Europe, saving hundreds and possibly thousands from imprisonment for simple cannabis possession.

“I’m most interested in conversations related to drug policy reform and immigration, the aspects of drug policy that hit marginalized communities disproportionately.”

I’m looking forward to watching the National Cannabis Policy Summit on Sept. 10, 2020. I’m most interested in conversations related to drug policy reform and immigration, the aspects of drug policy that hit marginalized communities disproportionately. The intersection of drug policy and immigration creates huge problems for many immigrant communities across the United States. It’s a very important issue to be discussed and will hopefully lead to important insights as to why and how can drug policy can be reformed to help the communities that need it most.
