Congratulations to Vermont!

Despite the federal government's renewed effort to criminalize cannabis, Vermont just legalized marijuana. This is huge news! Vermont is the first state to end marijuana prohibition through the state legislature — meaning lawmakers actually did something for the voters, instead of voters taking matters into their own hands with a ballot initiative.

Vermont’s legislature is standing up to the regressive, harmful policies coming out of Jeff Sessions’ Justice Department

Although the bill stops short of legalizing recreational weed sales, adults 21 and over may possess:

  • up to 1 ounce of marijuana
  • up to 2 mature cannabis plants
  • up to 4 immature cannabis plants

Vermont is the ninth state to end marijuana prohibition and, along with Maine, Massachusetts, and Washington DC, leads the way for sensible marijuana policy on the East Coast.
