The Women Grow Leadership Summit: DC Goes to Denver

by guest blogger, Jennifer Culpepper, Creative Director at Brand Joint.

Once a year, cannabis industry women (and men) gather in Denver to network, share insight and inspire one another at the Women Grow Leadership Summit. It was my first time attending the summit and I am so grateful for my experience. Over the course of three days, I attended inspirational lightning talks, social events and educational panels. It was inspiring and motivating to be surrounded by so many talented women and men that are passionate about their cannabis careers.

The Women Grow Leadership Summit was unlike any other conference I’ve attended. Most of the time, I leave multi-day conferences feeling exhausted and overwhelmed with information. This time however, I left Denver feeling inspired and invigorated, especially after leading the “Parenting in the Cannabis Industry” panel on the summit’s last day.

Along with fellow cannabis entrepreneurs Leah Heise (CEO, Women Grow), Carrie Kirk (Cannaline) and Chanda Macias (Owner of National Holistic Healing Center) I shared my experience “coming out” as a cannabis industry professional. Each member of the panel and attendees shared their stories and the unique challenges they face as parents in this industry.

Based on the response to the panel, it was clear that there are many parents looking for a community in which they can share stories, advice and ask questions to other parents and support one another in a safe, open and honest environment. So, upon returning home, I launched the website and Facebook group for the PCA (Parent Cannabis Association). The PCA is a judgment-free space for parents who work in the cannabis industry, parents who consume cannabis, and parents who medicate their children with cannabis.

Like the PCA, I find Women Grow to be one of the most supportive organizations for such a unique industry. As I continue my own journey of branding and design for the cannabis industry, I’m thankful to have the support of hundreds of talented women entrepreneurs. Thanks for such a great week in Denver, and I look forward to next year’s event!
