Artist Spotlight: Meet Proverbs Reggae Band

We’re excited to introduce the 2024 Homegrown Music Contest winners, Proverbs Reggae Band!

Based in the Washington D.C. Metro area since 2000, Proverbs Reggae Band performs original, socially-conscious reggae music and popular classics by such greats like Bob Marley.

The band uses the art of music to promote ancient wisdom and spread the spiritual message of JAH Rastafari through word, power and song. Catch their set live on the main stage at NCF, and get ready to get down to a set influenced by Ska, Rootz Reggae, Jazz, Gospel, R&B, Compaz, Zouk, Soul and a splash of Calypso.

NCF: Where are you (all) from and where do you live now?

Proverbs Reggae Band: We are based in Maryland but from various places. St Vincent and the Grenadines, Jamaica, Alexandria VA, St Louis MO, Offenbach Germany.

NCF: What inspired your band/performance creation?

PRB: We want to use our music to make a difference in the world. We believe that you can affect positive change through music.

NCF: What's your favorite song to enjoy with cannabis and/or for relaxation?

PRB: I’m not sure if there is any one particular song, but anything that brings peace and joy.

NCF: If you could invite anyone (the sky's the limit!) to guest perform with you onstage at NCF who would it be and why?

PRB: Peter Tosh. Although he’s not with us anymore, his passion and bold advocacy for the legalization of cannabis was unmatched. He was singing about it when people were afraid to even have a conversation about it.

NCF: Any upcoming projects or shows we can make folks aware of?

PRB: We’re focusing on some studio work right now. Follow us on Instagram for updates!
